It's a nice idea, but too much trouble for game programers.

Gamer programers should be able to do this if they can.

DO IT! If you can't do this then how can we expect GW2 to be well balanced and fair?

Please make new game books retroactive like you did for EOTN!
Please make new game books retroactive like you did for EOTN! It isn't fair that only new players are rewarded for all of their PVE time over the years. We should be able to receive our first game book reward as gratis for our loyalty alone, let alone all of the time and money spent. ARE YOU ALL WITH ME OUT THERE?

bad poll choices can't vote.
on principal i'd vote no, don't make the book retroactive. Because making the book retroactive its like the recent: buy second campaign at 50% off when you buy any campaign from our online store promotion. Making the book retroactive is like this: hey, you have to refund 50% for all and every of my second purchase from the online store, because I bought many and there are a lot of 50% off there that I want the promotion to be retroactive. but is it fair to do that?
however I am not going to vote anything on any topic related to this, because I am going to sit on the fence, you know where I stand, and even if Arena Net decide to make the book retroactive I don't loose anything. lol i just don't subscribe to that idea of making the book retroactive. but if it is, no harm to me.
back to the fence.

You need to make the option "No" on your poll.
Then lets talk.

Someone didn't bother to read the dev update notes, huh?
Quote:
Storybook Retroactivity
Storybook NPCs allow players to purchase the pages of missions completed without having the book in inventory. However, we decided not to allow players to purchase the pages of missions that were completed prior to the update. This was a difficult decision to make, but an important one.
We monitor the economy closely and found a significant fluctuation in how much gold players had on average after the addition of the M.O.X. quests (which give a 10 platinum reward). If we allowed players to purchase those pages, any character that had completed all three campaigns in Normal Mode would be receiving 18 platinum and 42,750 gold for Hard Mode completion for a grand total of 60,750 gold. In light of how much the economy was affected by just 10 platinum, the inflation caused by giving out 60 platinum per character was too significant for us to allow.

If they felt it should be retroactive, they would have made it so during implementation. It won't happen so give it up. Besides, the benefit per person would be minimal while it would at the same time generate a large influx of cash into the game giving a few platinum to every single player that completed factions, nightfall, and or prophecies. Guild Wars economy is bloated enough as it is.

QQ thread, go.
Really, the only people who should be whining about this getting implemented are people who don't want to play the game the way it was meant to be played. Plus, ANet as already established a good position on why they didn't do this.

I'm not sure how "good" that position is when they could remove the monetary reward for retroactive books. The main benefit is for Alliance Faction, which is no small deal. Regardless, this topic was discussed to death at the time of the update. This poll does not represent all the opinions on the matter, or even the key ones. It CAN be done, Anet has chosen not to do it. I sure can't see them doing it at this stage and I'm not sure I really care.

How about the "They have already told us no and pretty convincingly explained why so whining is a waste of time" option?

Your idea of being ignorant, ranting about something you didn't know, not giving people the option to disagree, and then insulting everyone who still does, really isn't very effective. Good try though.
As others said, it'd be too much $ in the market. And the poll needs "no".

I got their reasons, but I still hope they will come up with something for the old timers. You know . . . maybe not change their minds, but alter them a bit.
Guess this whole thread might as well be locked at this point.

Enough time has passed on this, ANet said they won't, ANet said why they didn't.
Give. It. Up.
+1 to deletion. (Don't see the point of closing threads other then to say why it was closed - just delete them!)

Really, cause the whole point of turning them in isn't for the gold, but the title points right? I can turn in the Factions book for my Lux/Kurz titles. And my NF book for my SS/LB title. And my Proph book for... for 5-6 skill points?

it's not like they haven't given SEVERAL friends of mine MILLIONSSSS via Zkeys for logging into their site once a month.

Which doesn't happen to involve making the right predictions and then finding someone to buy your z-keys/getting lucky on the z-chest, right? While everyone and their grandmas are trying to do the same?

That would almost be as harmful to the economy as 60k once for going to the right npcs.

Once, for each char. Free 540k for me then.

Remove the Gold from the Books...problem solved.
You would have to be on Crack if you were farming the books for gold anyway.
